IT firm crowned Hounslow Business of the Year

An IT company that started life in a shed more than a decade ago has been crowned Hounslow’s Business of the Year.

From humble beginnings Online Support Computing has grown into a business that today employs 30 staff and works with clients including Qatar Airways, the Down’s Syndrome Association and Holiday Inn, from its Brentford offices.

The company received the accolade in front of more than 200 businessmen and women at the Hounslow Business Awards gala dinner at Hilton Syon Park on Friday, October 9.

Guests at the ceremony, organised by Hounslow Chamber of Commerce, heard from Ron Gillespie, Service Director, of headline sponsor Hounslow Highways, who said the judges had chosen Online Support as overall winner for its “Online Support demonstrated through their award entries that they are approaching a wide range of business principles with enthusiasm, pragmatism and a controlled level of risk-taking and entrepreneurialism. Their customer service model is a clear statement that challenges customers to not like their service, which ultimately helps them aim very high in this area and achieve high levels of satisfaction. As a digital-based company you would expect good use of social media and on-line marketing, but their entry in this category showed fantastic technical knowledge coupled with great understanding of their metrics and the outcomes they wished to achieve from their use”.

The firm, which also picked up the award for Best SME Business for the second year, attributes its continued growth and success to its founding principle that the customer comes first.Online Support was launched in 2002 by directors Charlie Wetherall and Tim Page. The pair met while travelling on separate road trips across Africa in 1995 and became firm friends. They kept in touch on their return to the UK and when Charlie spotted an opportunity to launch a business providing IT support services to small businesses he immediately turned to Tim.Having initially set up office in a shed with their first employee Online Support has continued to expand both as a business and in the services it offers. It believes the number of customer referrals it receives and client retention is testament to how the business operates.
